leather
At the height of summer 2025 I wanted a louis carmen journal but (1) didn't want to pay the premium and (2) thought it was easy enough to make myself. Instead, I paid the premium to get the basic tools and materials to make them. Sunk cost fallacy convinced me to get charm making supplies and more leather, for variety ✨
I love leather because it ages beautifully and is meant to be used forever. Leather absorbs moisture and oils from its environment, darkening and developing a soft sheen over time. This process, called leather patina, makes an item truly personal. Note, heavily finished leather will not patina.
You can occasionally find me at makers fairs with these journals. You can also dm me on my new creative ig (@baysea.c) if you're interested. They range $30-$100 depending on the leather used.
Unfortunately, I have not documented these as diligently as my ceramics. ps, some pictures stretch when clicked into and unfortunately I'm not sure how to fix it :(
